What We Do

Aims of the Ripon Disability Forum

The forum’s main aim is to work with local authorities, health services, businesses, charities, and community groups to improve the lives of people with disabilities, their carers, and families. They want to make sure that people with disabilities have the support and services they need to live a good life.

The Ripon Disability Forum believes in open discussions, working together, and making sure that people with disabilities are included in the community. It works hard to change the way people think about disabilities, break down barriers, and make life better for everyone.

Most importantly the forum is committed to making real changes. It provides a place for people to talk about important issues, work with local organisations to give advice and support, and talk to decision-makers to make sure the voices of people with disabilities are heard.

Advocacy

RDF advocates for those with disabilities in the local area. Usually this is general advocacy on behalf of all people with disabilities in areas such as:

  • Design proposals
  • Transport
  • Access to services
  • Routes and pathways

Occasionally trustees can offer individual advocacy where no other agency is available. In these cases, the trustee offers to help an individual in meetings and in written communications.

Where possible, and when needed, the trustees seek to identify a formal advocate for this person.

Trustees work to ensure a constructive relationship is maintained with agencies and the community it serves.
